Call to Women in Technology: Step Forward!

Being a woman in technology, the effort to get more females involved is one very close to my heart. The goal is to help entice more women to join this sector and encourage the ones who are in it to step up and speak out. There are a lot of amazing ways women can get involved and promote themselves in IT.

One way to connect and support other women is to join the UKOUG Women in IT Initiative Mentoring Program. This program connects experienced IT women with the new, less experienced, generation to help the number of women in technology grow. If you are interested you can sign up here to inspire someone who is just starting out. Or if you are a member of that newer generation you can sign up here to get matched with a fantastic mentor who can help grow your career and offer great advice.

If you are looking for more inspiration about women in IT check out UKOUG’s case studies that spotlight the important and integral roles women play in the world of technology.

One of the best ways to get involved is to sign up to speak at conferences to increase female representation at these events. As a seasoned conference attendee and speaker I can assure you that it is so much fun to travel and meet all of these amazing and accomplished people, other women especially! One of my personal favorites is UKOUG’s annual Tech conference. You can check out my past blog post about Tech13 to read all about the fun. Call for papers for Tech14 has already begun and while they already have over 120 submissions, they are still looking for more. UKOUG especially wants to encourage first time speakers to get involved. Sessions can cover a wide array of topics, click here to see the full list. Even if you aren’t ready for the responsibility of speaking at a conference yet, come check it out so that my session audience is more than 5% women like last year! We women have to stick together; girl power!
